On Children And Dishware

Having a toddler inside the house made me realize, these children keep the fine china industry alive considering the number of dishes they break during their early years (with help from husband and wife fighting and using the dishes as their main weapons). Which is why we don’t have a lot of dinnerware that are breakable (or any breakables in the house, come to think of it). So what do we use as tableware you ask? Melamine ware from Thailand. No, we didn’t exactly buy it there, just from a local tableware store we trust. Unbreakable (at least by Svet), lightweight and has fun designs.

Partnered with stainless steel flatware, I think we’re pretty sure we won’t be losing any dishware anytime soon. I’ve read of issues with Melamine being hazardous to health, but only on unreasonable amounts taken in, and mostly products from China. I don’t know what’s the deal with China and contaminated products, there seems to be a lot of them lately. Not in any way judging here, but when the health of your family is involved, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

I found that dark-colored linens (especially tablecloth) is also advisable. Toddlers are such messy eaters because they are just learning to eat on their own, and as much as I want my tablecloth clean all the time, I also want Svet to learn how to eat by herself. So I’m just saving myself the frustration of changing tablecloths everyday by using dark-colored ones with place mats on top and a huge bib on Svet during meal times. How about you? How do you keep your sanity when it comes to kitchenware?
