When Paulie started feeling ill today, he went out and threw his still half full cigarette pack in the bin. I learned of it when we were talking and going through the possible reasons for his sudden sickness. As always, I declared it was because of his too much smoking. I was surprised when he told me that he already threw his cigarettes away. I didn’t believe him at first, but when I looked at the bin, it was crumpled there (or at least as crumpled as he can get half a pack of it).
I’m not sure how long this swearing off cigarettes would last. He has tried several times before to no avail. I hope for his sake that this would be for real now, but with Paulie, you never know what to expect. I have given up trying to make him stop a while ago, and I’m not about to start badgering him again if ever he decides he wants to smoke once more. It gets old, this issue. When he stops, then great. If not, then okay.
