Me and Paulie aren’t the sort of parents to stress over something that Svet should have learned doing just because some smug parent have boasted “Oh my child can already do that since (insert an unbelievably early age here)”. We know that child development varies, and we can’t push her into learning something she doesn’t want to learn yet. I know it might sound lax parenting, but we don’t think so. We think it’s letting Svet do things at her own pace, a good stepping stone for independence.
So she’s toilet training right now and it started because she, herself, insisted on not wearing diapers anymore during daytime. She goes to the bathroom when she has to pee and beckons us to help her to the toilet bowl (toilet trainer coming next week). She sometimes forgets that she’s supposed to go to the toilet (especially when she’s engrossed in a show or movie) so she pees on the spot, but we never give her a hard time when she does that. We just remind her again that when she feels like peeing, she should ask us.
When we buy the potty next week, I guess things will be a lot easier for her (and us). I am hoping to have her fully-trained before December, and negate the need for a diaper even at night. It would be a real achievement for her, and I am so proud that she seems to be doing just great right now.
