Missing Sheila Levine

Girls Talk over at Beauty Queen Gene is all about books this month of October, and it made me look back on all the wonderful books I have read in my lifetime. One book I sorely miss, is Sheila Levine Is Dead And Living In New York by Gail Parent. Quite a long title eh? I used to own a copy of this dear book back in college when I acquired hundreds of novels like crazy. I didn’t realize that copy is precious because it was already out of print. Was, since Amazon re-released it already (due to insistent public demand, of course). Now I’m a bit depressed, because I want to read it again and I can’t find my copy, or even an e-book version to purchase!

Why the obsession over an old book? It was too funny, the way I remember it. I want to relive the fun and the laughter and the sadness of Sheila (the book’s main character) as she writes a book-long suicide note. Yep. That book is one darn suicide note. And a funny one, at that. I am skinny unlike Sheila, who is in serious need of fat burning exercises in the book, which is why I, myself, was surprised that I can relate to her a lot. She’s a protagonist that most girls can find a bit of themselves in, and if only I can share the book to all of you, I will. Problem is, I have to find a copy for myself first. Darn it. I want a copy SO BAD!
