Music And Kids

Some kids like cars (like my nephew Hendrix). Some kids like Barbie dolls (like my cousin when she was little, she was crazy over them!). A lot of kids like Dora The Explorer, and my daughter Svet is no exception. What she also likes, is music. I think a lot of kids are drawn to music, what with the interesting beats, and almost everything they hear has music in it. A lot of children grow up to become hard-core music loves, some become musicians. I don’t know yet what category Svet will fall in, but I’ll be happy either way.

As early as one year old, Svet already showed signs of interest in music like Paulie. Which is why we bought her a guitar (albeit a toy one for now) and are planning to buy her a small piano on Christmas. We want to support her all her interests, and if music is one of them, then we will do everything we can to nurture it. Even if it means she will have to chew on several more headsets in her childhood. Yes, unfortunately, she does that to all our headsets.

My mom listens to a lot of music too, and as a kid I was used to singing along to her favorite songs (although my voice refused to become beautiful over time and I’m pretty sure I did not destroy any accessories during my time. LOL) in the player. I want to instill that love for music in Svet too. Perhaps like me, she can also find solace and inspiration through listening to the type of music that she loves. I like the more mellow ones, while Paulie likes it loud, so Svet is exposed to both kinds. In time she will have her own preference in music, and whatever it maybe, I will be more than glad to supply her the dose of music that she needs in her life.

Look at this funny picture of hers, her favorite Taylor Swift song was playing on my computer at the time, and she went and picked up the speakers to put it on both her ears while singing along to “You Belong With Me”. LOL.
