Apparently, there is now a relationship between the two. Police and school officials are already turning to GPS tracking to ensure that students come to their classes everyday. In a six-week pilot program spearheaded by the Anaheim Union High School District in California, seventh- and eighth-graders who have a track record of being absent for four or more days this current school year will be required to carry a small GPS device. This is of course upon consent of the parents of the child in question.
Kids these days are very different from children years ago, and such a drastic measure may be called for to ensure that they stay in school. Of course, this says a lot about the amount of intervention that parents should be playing with regards to their child’s attendance in school. The use of high-tech devices alone will not solve the problem if the parents are themselves not involved with their child’s attitude towards school. The schools should also ensure that they provide a place that children would want to go everyday and learn.
What with the cost of sending a kid to school nowadays, not to mention the benefits of finishing school, should be enough of a motivation for parents to support their child’s education in every way they can.
