When Love Goes Digital

I was reading this ABC News Technology feature story and thought I’d share it with you guys. With the advent of the Internet where anyone can pretty much do whatever transactions they want online (bank account inquiry, bills payment, etc.), romantics all over the world have found a million more ways to express how they feel towards their loved ones. Take for instance Scott Allen, who, upon seeing that the famous e-book reader Kindle was on sale at Amazon.com, bought it and wrote in it the romantic story of how he and girlfriend Kim Karcher met. He decided to leave it open-ended and gave it to Karcher as a gift (love story and the device), the ending to be decided whether Karcher accepts his proposal or not. Who would dare put down such an ingeniously sweet way of proposing? They are to be married on May, and Allen mentioned that the Kindle might join them at the altar, maybe even in the hands of their officiant.

In another touching story, Dana Burck found a deal of a lifetime on Groupon.com, when boyfriend Greg Hill created a featured deal “A Surprise for a Dana from a Greg,” and in the fine print it read: “Expires Jan. 5, 2011. Nontransferable. Groupon entitled to no less than 15% of your marital bliss.” How creative! And I can imagine the look on Burck’s face when she can’t understand it at first and turned to see Hill on his knees, ring on one hand and and iPod on the other playing her most favorite song. Of course, with that kind of proposal, her heart has no choice but to grab the deal, and when she clicked “Buy”, the page said “Congratulations Dana or Stranger, you are now unofficially obliged to marry Greg!”.

WOW. Now those kinds of proposal make me want to get married.

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!
