There are four desktops in this house, all of which are connected to a router for Internet connection. I have the shortest cable and nearest to the router, so my connection is the fastest among the computers here. And they don’t dare gripe on the speed that their computers get. LOL. Two computers have the Windows XP Operating System (OS) while the other two is on Windows Seven. While it was pretty easy to set up the home network, I had a bit of a trouble connecting the XP and Seven machines so that we can access each others’ shared folders. It is an essential networking feature for us because we swap files several times a day everyday.
I have a fear of viruses spreading on the network because not all the users here are careful about what they download from the net (yes, I’m talking about my little sister who clicks on pop-ups and unknowingly downloads malware on her unit from time to time). I do not have an anti-virus installed (not since last, last year when I still have an über slow computer which forced me to disable it) but it’s only because I am extra careful about my online activities and avoid the risks that might expose my desktop to a nasty virus. But I won’t recommend doing that to just anyone. Especially for the not-so savvy about the web.
We all work from home, and we are well aware of the fact that the more we use the Internet, the more exposed we are to viruses that can bring all our units down in a matter of minutes. That being said, we try to inform each other of the latest identified viruses and not-safe sites that we all should avoid, so we can stay virus-free for as long as we can. So far, so good.

i also have 4 computers at home, 2 desktops, and another 2 notebooks/laptops, using a wifi router as a network. i installed an anti virus in each of them to make sure. virus removal is a pain in the neck, and hard disks suffer from frequent formatting. aside from the anti-virus i freeze the drive C thus moving the My Documents path to drive D bec. my kids and husband have the habit of downloading files and games every now and then. i also install a bandwidth limiter to each pc 🙂
for 2 years of using my computer, had it reformatted thrice. whatever anti virus or firewall I use, my computer still catches some bug. hate it much.
