While we all know to make a life cover comparison and to make sure that our auto insurance is up to date, it can be extremely easy to lose track of the other details that allow our lives to go smoothly. The truth of the matter is that many people feel as though they are too busy to improve their health. However, there are definitely shortcuts that you can take when you want to to be significantly more engaged with your body and healthy in your lifestyle.
First, do some pre-cooking. If you have a stew that you love, make lots of it and then freeze it. Vegetarian stews especially are ideal for the freezer. Then, when you want something to eat, you can take out some stew, thaw it in the microwave, and enjoy something that is far healthier than take-out. If you have never made a stew before, it can be as simple as throwing bell pepper, canned tomatoes and onions into a pot, filling the pot with water, and allowing the water to boil off. While this can take up to two or three hours, you can simply leave it alone for most of the time. Come in periodically to check on stew and to stir it. Do not allow the water to boil off completely. Leave this stew plain or add your favorite spices or some ground meat to it to dress it up.
Keep lots of fresh fruit around. When you are craving a sugary snack, have an orange or an apple instead of a candy bar. While the energy lift that you get from an orange or an apple is more subtle, you won’t have a sugar crash that causes you to feel tired and cranky afterward. Keep your vegetables in the fridge so that they won’t go bad as quickly. Some fruits, like grapes and cherry tomatoes, can be frozen for a delicious summertime treat.
Exercise is something that gives lots of people lots of issues. It’s hard to change out of your old clothes, change into workout clothes, exercise and then shower, especially when you are short on time. Remove some of these steps by working out in the morning before work. Wake up, out on your workout clothes, exercise and then shower and dress as you usually would. If you need motivation for working out in the evening, go directly from work to the gym.
When you are trying to fit exercise in with a busy schedule, start overlapping it with other activities. For example, if you love to spend time with your kids on the weekend, start instituting outdoor hikes or family games of tag. If you watch lots of television, buy a small exercise bike or a step that you can climb while you watch.
The key is not to shape your life around the food that you think that you should be eating or the exercise that you think you should be doing. Instead, find food and exercise that are both healthy for you and that will fit seamlessly into the way you live.
