A couple of months back, I was having serious problems with my old hard drive not booting properly. I would have freaked out big time if not for the fact that I have been diligently backing up all my files in a not-so recently purchased Western Digital Elements 320GB portable external hard drive (HD). You see, my hard drive is an important part of my life. In case of a fire, this is definitely the first thing that I would save. It is where I store all the files in connection to my work, all our pictures, basically everything essential to my online existence, that’s why. So if it goes haywire (or lost) and I don’t have any back-up, I know that I am royally screwed up.
The idea of an external hard drive actually didn’t occur to me until I saw a bargain deal at a local online store, and since I have extra money that time, I decided to go ahead and buy it. You know, just in case something goes wrong. True enough, something did, and you can imagine my relief when I realize I need not panic over the loss of my old (and much used) hard drive. It was time for the trusty HD to retire, and I willingly let it rest, because it has served me well. And besides, I have back-up. Hee hee. My WD Elements seems a small back-up drive to have now, considering my current drive size, so I am planning to buy a bigger external HD before the year ends.
I always say, if there’s one thing you can’t have too many of, it is a back-up.
