Has technology made parenting easier? Since my Svet is just two years old, I have yet to find out in the long run if this is true. But looking at it from my mom’s perspective, I think it is a good thing for us because it made us much closer through more frequent communication via mobile phone and Facebook, especially since she works in another city and we only get to see each other once every month. When we were younger, we didn’t have constant access to the internet (yes, we were old school like that), so my mom needn’t have the need for parental control software to monitor our online activities.
Times have changed though. There are more unsafe for kids sites on the internet nowadays, and a lot more people who use their mobiles to trick children who own one for themselves. I guess being a mom made me more conscious of those things, and I don’t think it is paranoia on my part if I purchase an phone recovery stick to monitor my kid’s activities on her future phone (which, seeing how the trend is developing, may very well be an iPhone). But these concerns are still a thing of the (however near) future, so I still have time to mull over how can I protect my Svet from the “undesirables”.
