Celebrations

My mom’s and dad’s birthdays are only two days apart. Dad’s is on January 1, and mom’s is on the fourth. They celebrate separately, of course, since they’ve parted ways ten years ago. I know it might sound awful to some, especially to those who are not used to the idea of a broken family, but hey. We’re alright. We’re good with the idea that they are just not for each other. Anyways, so when we can, we go to my dad’s celebration (or he goes to us) during his special day and we reserve the fourth solely to celebrate my mom’s birthday.

This year, me and my sisters already have plans about their birthdays and what to give them. Unlike some moms who would be thrilled if given birthstone jewelry (Garnet being her birthstone), ours would probably freak out and tell us to go return it to the store if we attempted to give her that, as she is such a practical soul. So we’d give her something she needs instead. But I’m not going to tell you what it is yet. She reads my blog sometimes, see, and I won’t spoil the surprise. Tee hee.

As for my dad, he would be happy, I know, with a simple gathering and food on the table for everyone. I already gave him a little something when we last met, for his bag-making business to start rolling again, and we are thinking of giving him some more on his birthday, and I’m sure he would be delighted, as bag-making is one of his favorite things to do in the world.
