I’m not talking about me. I don’t think I can be addicted to the site, although I watch videos there from time to time (The Annoying Orange, particularly). Who’s addicted to YouTube? My two-year old daughter, Svet. She likes to watch cartoons in there when she’s bored from playing with her toys or watching Nickelodeon on TV. So she’d open her dad’s desktop (yes, she already knows how to), open a browser and click on the YouTube page that her dad bookmarked for her. I’m amazed at how fast she learned how to do these things. I think when I was two years old I was not even allowed to hold a remote control. Kids nowadays, eh?
After a video (you know how short YouTube videos are), she would reach for the mouse and pick another one to watch from the related videos on the side of the screen. Her dad taught her that, when he got tired of her calling him every once in a while to click on another video that she likes. Of course at first we would need to type the keyword (usually Elmo or Pocoyo) for her but she can manage by herself after that. I have found her watching a totally different cartoons than what she originally requested. Sometimes she would even click an outside link and land on a new tab and would cry for my help to get back to the YouTube page she was watching.
She does this everyday. She would watch for about thirty minutes (longest attention span she has), until she gets bored again and proceeds to shut down the desktop by turning off the power regulator directly. Oh I know. We still need to teach her how to shut down properly.
