Slowly But Surely

Not a lot of things in life can be rushed, and blogging is not an exception to that statement. People new to the blogosphere think that it’s an easy task to earn from a blog. That you just sit in front of your computer, type out what’s 0n your mind and expect the money to immediately come rolling in. Blogging, I tell you, is so much more than that. For starters, you’ll need your own domain name and host in order to fully maximize the potential of your site. Subdomains (like .blogspot.com and .wordpress.com) simply won’t give you as much money as when you own a domain and have it hosted somewhere reliable. It’s not even an easy task to look for the cheapest web hosting on the net. It took me two hosts to realize that my first web host choice was a total fail.

When you already have your own domain and host, you’ll need traffic to attract advertisers and/or qualify to accept paid posts on your blog. You can either buy that traffic or interact with other blogs to increase your Alexa ranking and PageRank. Even if you think you have what it takes to be the next Darren Rowse, you’ll still need to start as an unknown entity in the blogosphere and work your way towards your goal. You must be willing to invest a considerable amount of time and some money in your blog to actually start earning from it.

But even if you do all this, there is still no guarantee that you’ll earn four to five digits a month through blogging. It still depends on how dedicated you are to the field, how much you want to succeed and a number of other factors that are beyond you control. Also, for one to last in the blogging world, motivation should not stem from earning money. You will soon find that you’ll lose all interest in blogging sooner if you do it solely for the money. You must take blogging as a passion and not just as a sideline that you can potentially earn money from.

  1. I just started blogging when I met a couple of bloggers in an event a few months ago. My blog’s not yet the earning type but perhaps someday soon when I’ve improved my writing skills and have learned the ropes I’ll be able to earn also through blogging.

Thank you for your post! I’ll take your advice and take it slowly but surely.
