I Am Using Internet Explorer

The original title of this article is “I Hate Internet Explorer”, but I decided instead to use the opening line of some clients that never, ever fail to send shivers down my spine. Anyone who has worked behind the scenes of a website knows that Internet Explorer (IE) is an unholy pain in the frontal lobe of the cerebral cortex. How can a lot of people hate something with so much passion, you ask. I can state the specific reasons why but I think these three words sum it up: It. Is. Outdated.

One would think it shouldn’t be so bad for me because since I hate it, I don’t use it for, well, anything. But why oh why do I have it installed in my desktop? I’m a masochist I know, but trust me when I say that it’s not because of that. It’s for when I hear the dreaded words from a client (see above). It’s almost physically painful to know that on every design, I need to spend more time than is necessary just to make it work on IE like it is working on every other browser on the face of the planet.

But realistically, I know that even with all the rage directed at IE by fellow cyberspace dwellers, we still have to deal with it for as long as people are using it. I am head over heels in love with my work and the people I’ve worked with, don’t get me wrong, but I really, really despise Internet Explorer in all of its forms and, at the risk of sounding like a child, wish there was some way to make it disappear forever.
