Thoughts On Web Hosting

Back when I didn’t have a website to call my own, I was blissfully unaware of the difficulties of finding a reliable website hosting company that I can entrust my whole site to. I didn’t realize how it would become such an important consideration for maintaining a site, to the point of it being the central point where all my other website decisions would be based on. When I finally learned how crucial this decision is, I started really learning. At first I went for free web hosts, thinking that since I’m just starting, I would save money by doing that and hey, web hosts are  just web hosts. They should all be the same, right?

Wrong.

I have been through it, and it was hell. Anything free always has a catch. And for web hosting, it’s the reliability factor. What dismayed me was people contacting me saying my whole website (or one of its pages) was not working, and I since I am a bit of an obsessive-compulsive when it comes to my sites, I was very much dismayed by my free host’s performance. That, coupled with the fact that I got to talking to some of my friends who have paid web hosts and they are mentioning some really useful features that I wish my free host have.

With that in mind, I set to look for a cheap web hosting which would not compromise my site’s availability on the Internet,  has a cPanel which would let me manage my files easily and which would allow me to host multiple domains in the package without much fuss. It was confusing, looking at all those web hosting sites and not knowing whether or not what they claim on their sales pages are true. In the end, what helped me with my decisions is a good web hosting guide. From there, the concepts are easier to grasp, thus paving the way for finding my ideal web host.

Now, I am very satisfied with the performance of my current host. I would not trade it for anything in the world because it’s cheap and the support is great. I now have no headaches when it comes to maintaining my sites and their stability. All I am preoccupied now is publishing contents to my sites on a regular basis, which is sometimes hard because of my schedule, but that’s another topic altogether.
