How To Apply For An EON Card

This is a step-by-step of how you can apply for an EON card from UnionBank so that you can easily have your PayPal account verified (if you do not have a credit card) and have a savings account to withdraw your PayPal funds to as well.

  1. Bring 2 valid IDs (list of acceptable IDs are here) and go to the UnionBank branch nearest you (list of branches are here). Having your IDs photocopied before entering the bank speeds up the process.
  2. Ask for the new accounts personnel for an EON application form and fill it up. Have a copy of your SSS and TIN number ready if you already have them, as they are needed information in the form.
  3. Submit the form and ask the personnel when can you expect to secure your EON card. The period varies. Some get it after one week, some after two, and if you’re unlucky, you get it after a month. Just remember to be persistent and follow-up when you can.
  4. Go back to the branch at the date stated by the personnel. If your card is not there yet, burn the branch to the ground. But just in case it’s already there, bring at least Php500 to cover the fees*.
  5. Pay the corresponding fees and go home with a smug smile on your face. You are now a proud owner of an EON card.

*Php350 for the EON card annual fee (UnionBank’s charge) and Php150 for the purpose of PayPal verification, the latter which will be refunded back to your PayPal account once it is verified. Actually, the amount for verification is only $1.95, but since the peso-dollar exchange rate is ever-changing, it is good to provide for allowances. It will be remitted back to your PayPal, so no worries.

The two IDs I used  my postal ID and my freshly-renewed NBI clearance, fyi. I lost my wallet (and thus all my precious valid IDs) a while back so I opted to get a postal ID since it only takes one day to get and an NBI clearance (since we have a super fast kiosk here in Baguio where I was able to renew my clearance within several minutes). So there’s a tip for you if you’re like me who don’t have two valid IDs at hand.

Here’s a video tutorial from the UnionBank website to help you understand better the steps needed for you to start converting your PayPal funds to cold hard cash. If I muster enough motivation, I will also post a how-to for verifying your PayPal account using your brand spanking new EON card. Questions? The comment section is open. 🙂
