Almost Had A Heart Attack

I just finished a couple of designs when I decided to draft several posts at this blog for when I finally leave for Manila later this week. I logged in to my dashboard, not expecting anything out of the ordinary, when I stopped short at the latest unapproved comment. It was the same comment as the last made when I first transferred to my new host, which was two weeks ago. Out of curiosity, I decided to check on the homepage of this blog and was flabbergasted (there is no other word for what I felt that time) at what I saw: the most recent post was TWO WEEKS AGO!

I remembered my supposed to be latest post and decided to Google it, but came up with a 404. The next train of thought was “Fuck. I haven’t backed up since last week.” So that means one week of lost posts. I immediately tried to contact Bluehost (my new host) support to try and find answers as to why my blog posts rolled back two weeks ago, but the live chat person I talked to said I should open a ticket instead. Which in this emergency situation means no can’t do, since tickets are usually answered one to two days later. I went to my old host (eWeb) to see if my DNS is pointing to Bluehost, and found that it still is, so I am really getting pissed by the minute as I cannot understand why that happened.

It’s a good thing I decided to step outside for a while, because when I came back and checked this blog’s homepage, the posts were back. I don’t know what the frack happened, why this blog suddenly decided to give me a minor hyperventilation moment. I don’t know if this happens in the period in between switching hosts, but I’ll be damned if I let this happen again without proper backup. I am scheduling my backups on a daily basis now, and if that may seem hysterical to some, when your bread and butter is/are your blog/s, you can’t be too sure. As I am typing this, I am backing up on the server AND on my hard drive AND flash disk.

Such occurrences make me realize how important it is to BACK UP FILES.
