SEO 101

If you’ve been blogging for even just a few days, chances are, you have heard and/or read of SEO. I’ve been at it for a couple of years, and truthfully, I still have a lot to go in order to learn the ropes of SEO more and have it work to my full advantage. I don’t think I am even halfway there yet, what with my recent venture to blog designing, which somewhat took my mind off trying to earn from writing through blogging. Very far from being an SEO expert, I say. But what is SEO anyways, and why is it important?

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization, and it is the process of improving ranking in search engine results, and that’s not even my definition. I got that from Wikipedia. LOL. But I can’t find any words better explaining the term than what Wiki has come up with. Now why would you even want to SEO your site? I’m sure SEO consultants will tell you that optimizing your site and content for a search engine like Google can make or break your internet-based business (or even just a business with a web presence) and they would be very much right.

Landing first page in search engines means potential traffic for your site, and traffic means potential sales, which is every business’ goal. That’s why a lot of businesses even hire professional SEO experts to do the job of optimizing their sites for them. While others can afford big SEO agencies, smaller businesses opt for SEO consultants. Being a freelancer myself, I think it would be unfair to say that you will get better results with an agency, as that would be generalizing and ignoring the fact about individual client needs and resources.

As with everything else that deals with people, there is no black and white with SEO consulting. Bottom line is, people get the services that they need and can afford, whether it’s an agency or a freelancer.
