Are Social Icons Important In A Blog Design?

One of the most ordered add-ons in my blog design shop is the social icons pack. Most bloggers can live without all the other trinkets I offer, but not social icons. I am in fact already thinking of including it with the basic packages I offer the next time I update my prices, since almost every order I get have them. Below are some of the samples of social networking icons I’ve done for clients:

Gone are the days when a post signature is a must. Yes, it’s kind of weird now that I think about it, but there was a time when almost every new client wanted that. Signatures are often just an afterthought to an order these days, whereas social icons are now a must.

To bloggers, social media is the primary means of getting the word out. Sure, it takes time to build a solid social media presence, but when you do it could be the most effective and cheapest way to advertise your site. Besides, the task of growing your online social community can be tons of fun. Facebook and Twitter are still the leading social media sites, but Pinterest is fast becoming a staple as well.

The fact that social media is a vital part of blogging led to my personal assessment that social icons are an integral part of a design. Especially for people who want every design detail customized, down to the last period. It provides an easy and neat way for readers to stay connected with you, no matter where in the web you are. It allows easy sharing of your content, for a wider set of audience. Not to mention that it is an eye candy to look at in a template.

Like it or not, we live in a social media frenzied world, and we have to go with the flow in order to survive. It seems to work for the blogging industry experts, so there’s no reason to believe it wouldn’t work for the rest of us.

How about you? How has social media affected your blogging life?
