In The Zone

Anyone who’s seen me work in front of my computer knows how I am when I sit down on my red chair (a.k.a. the throne) to tackle the day’s workload. I go into the zone, and I stay there until I pry myself away at the end of the day. It’s both a good thing and a bad thing. Let me tell you why.

THE GOOD
I am focused like a horse with freakin’ blinders. Nothing vies for my attention except for the design and code that’s in front of me. That way, I get projects done faster and more efficiently. Trust me when I say that when I find my momentum, I hang on to it like it’s the only thing that can save me.

It’s literally painful for me to leave an agenda item half done because of something beyond my control. As much as possible, I like things done in one sitting. When I set a deadline for myself, I’ll do everything in my power to achieve it. Getting in the zone helps me with that all the time.

THE BAD
I have trouble shifting attention. I easily get irked when I get pried away from what I’m focusing on at the moment (which is the very reason why I significantly reduced the time I spend on Facebook). My family members ask me something, and I just nod my head without even understanding what they just asked. Might work to the advantage of the asker, but don’t you dare give them the idea.

Now that I’ve had a chance to closely look at this issue, calling it “in the zone” just doesn’t cut it anymore. I seriously think I maybe suffering a case of Type 3 ADHD (overfocused). Oh boy.
